FinOps Manager (m/f/d)

Senior Manager, Global FinOps & Cloud Cost Governance (m/f/d) About The Role Syntax is seeking a Senior Manager, Global FinOps & Cloud Cost Governance (m/f/d) to lead the development and global execution of FinOps strategy and operations across multi-cloud and hybrid environments.

This role will manage a distributed team of FinOps consultants operating across multiple time zones, ensuring consistent service delivery, financial governance, and operational excellence across customer engagements and internal cloud operations.

The Senior Manager will define and implement a globally standardized FinOps operating model aligned with hyperscaler best practices and Syntax’s cloud advisory services. The role will also oversee cloud governance across reseller operations, ensuring transparency, financial accuracy, and optimization across AWS, Azure, OCI, and internal infrastructure environments.

Working closely with Finance, Cloud Engineering, Procurement, Sales, and Resell Operations, this position will drive the adoption of FinOps principles while maximizing the value of cloud investments for both Syntax and its customers.

In addition, the role will help extend FinOps capabilities into modern workloads such as AI, GPU-based computing, and containerized platforms, ensuring financial governance across emerging cloud technologies.

Key Responsibilities Global FinOps Strategy & Leadership

  • Lead Syntax’s global FinOps practice, managing a distributed team across multiple regions and time zones
  • Define and implement a standardized FinOps operating model supporting customer engagements and internal cloud operations
  • Establish and maintain a FinOps Playbook to ensure consistent delivery methodologies across regions
  • Promote the adoption of FinOps culture and best practices across engineering, finance, and customer organizations

Multi-Cloud Financial Management

  • Harmonize FinOps methodologies across AWS, Azure, OCI, and private cloud platforms
  • Provide unified financial visibility across multi-cloud and hybrid environments
  • Develop centralized dashboards and KPIs to track cost performance, utilization, and optimization opportunities
  • Integrate hyperscaler cost models with Syntax internal data center cost structures for hybrid cost transparency

Global Delivery Standardization

  • Design and implement standardized FinOps processes across global delivery teams
  • Establish SLAs, reporting cadence, and escalation frameworks for FinOps operations
  • Develop and implement quality assurance and anomaly detection processes to identify cost overruns, billing discrepancies, and configuration issues within a billing cycle
  • Automate FinOps workflows to support scalable global service delivery and proactive cost optimization

Cloud Governance & Reseller Operations

  • Own and evolve Syntax’s Cloud Governance framework across hyperscaler partnerships including AWS, Azure, and OCI
  • Ensure alignment with hyperscaler governance policies, operational best practices, and commercial frameworks
  • Oversee cloud billing reconciliation and usage validation processes between hyperscaler invoices and Syntax billing systems
  • Manage financial constructs including:
  • Volume discount programs
  • Enterprise Agreements (EA)
  • Private Pricing Agreements (PPA)
  • Collaborate with Finance, Procurement, and Resell Operations teams to ensure proper application of negotiated discounts, credits, and rebates
  • Develop governance dashboards and financial performance metrics across hyperscaler partnerships

FinOps Advisory & Customer Engagement

  • Position FinOps as a strategic entry point for new Cloud Advisory engagements
  • Lead FinOps Assessments to identify cost optimization opportunities during early customer engagements
  • Collaborate with Sales and Advisory teams to embed FinOps insights into cloud transformation proposals
  • Provide strategic guidance to customers on cloud financial governance, cost allocation, and optimization strategies

FinOps for AI and Cloud-Native Workloads

  • Expand FinOps capabilities to support AI/ML workloads, GPU consumption, and containerized environments
  • Develop frameworks to monitor and optimize costs for:
  • Kubernetes
  • OpenShift
  • Managed container services
  • AI and machine learning platforms
  • Collaborate with Cloud Engineering and AI teams to integrate cost governance into modern cloud-native architectures
  • Deliver actionable insights on performance versus cost for AI and container workloads

FinOps Data Standards & Tooling

  • Lead Syntax’s adoption of FOCUS (FinOps Open Cost and Usage Specification) to standardize cost and usage data ingestion
  • Evaluate, implement, and manage FinOps and cost management platforms, including

commercial and hyperscaler-native tools

  • Serve as system owner and administrator for billing and cost analysis platforms such as CloudHealth and hyperscaler cost management tools
  • Identify opportunities for automation, anomaly detection, and workflow optimization across FinOps processes

Hybrid Cost Management

  • Extend FinOps methodologies to Syntax internal and hybrid data center environments
  • Define cost models for compute, storage, and hosting services aligned with cloud financial transparency principles
  • Integrate internal infrastructure services into customer-facing dashboards for unified hybrid financial reporting

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 7–10 years of experience in cloud financial management, FinOps, cloud economics, or cloud cost optimization
  • Experience managing distributed teams across multiple regions or time zones
  • Strong understanding of hyperscaler pricing models and billing structures (AWS, Azure, OCI)
  • Experience working in multi-cloud and hybrid cloud environments
  • Hands-on experience with FinOps tools such as CloudHealth, Apptio Cloudability, AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, or similar platforms
  • Demonstrated experience in cloud governance, financial reporting, and cost optimization frameworks
  • Experience working within a cloud reseller, managed service provider (MSP), or hyperscaler partner ecosystem
  • Familiarity with reseller operations, including billing reconciliation and management of Enterprise Agreements (EA), Private Pricing Agreements (PPA), vendor credits, and discount programs
  • Strong stakeholder management skills across engineering, finance, procurement, sales, and executive leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • FinOps Certified Practitioner or FinOps Professional certification
  • Hyperscaler certifications (AWS, Azure, OCI)
  • Experience with AI/ML cost governance or container platforms such as Kubernetes or OpenShift
  • Knowledge of automation, scripting, or data analysis tools (Python, SQL)
  • Experience implementing FinOps frameworks within managed services, consulting, or cloud partner organizations
