Software Asset Management

Job Description:

Own end-to-end lifecycle of software assets (request → procurement → deployment → usage → retirement).

Ensure accurate software asset records are maintained in CMDB/CMS.

Track software installations, upgrades, patches, and removals. Establish and manage software compliance program (audit readiness).

Perform license reconciliation (entitlement vs consumption).

Optimize license usage to reduce cost (harvesting, reallocation, SaaS optimization).

Monitor license expirations, renewals, and true-ups.

Ensure all software CIs are accurately recorded with attributes, versions, relationships.

Update CMDB for:

Software installations and upgrades

Decommissioned software

Patch updates and releases

Support CMDB audits and remediation activities.

Manage SAM tools (e.g., Flexera, ServiceNow SAM Pro, Snow).

Enable automated discovery, normalization, and reconciliation of software assets.

Integrate SAM tools with CMDB and ITSM platforms.

Lead internal and external software audits (e.g., Microsoft, Oracle, SAP).

Ensure alignment with ITIL Service Asset & Configuration Management (SACM).

Provide audit evidence and support remediation plans.

Publish reports on:

License compliance

Software usage trends

Cost optimization opportunities

Provide insights to stakeholders on software spend and risks.

Work with procurement, finance, legal, and vendors.

Track contracts, entitlements, maintenance agreements.

Resolve discrepancies between purchased vs installed software.

Leverage AI/ML tools for:

Software discovery and classification

License optimization insights

Predictive compliance risk detection

Support automated drift detection and remediation workflows

Required Skills & Experience

1. 5+ years in Software Asset Management / IT Asset Management
2. Strong experience with SAM tools (Flexera highly preferred)
3. Deep understanding of:
   • Software licensing models (OEM, subscription, SaaS, enterprise agreements)
   • ITIL SACM & CMDB processes
4. Experience with audit handling (Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, IBM)
5. Strong analytical and data reconciliation skills
6. Experience in ServiceNow / CMDB integration

• SIAM environment exposure
• AI-enabled asset discovery tools
• Cloud SaaS license management (O365, AWS, Azure)
• Certifications: ITIL v4, CSAM (Certified SAM Professional)
