Sr. Systems Engineer – FinOps

Job DescriptionINTRODUCTIONThe IT Operations organization is a component of Advance Auto Part’s Information Technology function. This team is responsible for all phases of Infrastructure delivery from architecture to daily operations. IT Ops operates at significant scale supporting over 70,000 connected end points and nearly 75,000 team members across North America. We deliver infrastructure and support services that have a clear impact on Advance Auto Part’s Mission of having a “Passion for Customers. Passion for Yes”.THE OPPORTUNITYThe Senior FinOps Analyst is a role that provides operational oversight and execution of tasks originating with the Cloud Center of Excellence (CCOE). This role is responsible for monitoring, tracking, alerting, and optimizing cloud spend and savings. This person will have a strong understanding of cloud vendor programs and how they are maximized and executed across internal teams.This position is an individual contributor that that is responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with CCOE members and Advance Auto Parts’ external partners to ensure that AAP receives the maximum value for any contracted services.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Financial reporting and forecasting – just in time, proactive monitoring and alerting so teams can be made aware of their financial obligations in real-time. Assist with their understanding of the data and suggested remediation
  • Expense Management – Continuous review and enablement with technical and operations teams to ensure everyone is equipped to properly manage and control their cloud services consumption.
  • Partner Relationship Support – Develop healthy and trusted relationships with cloud Partner Development Managers, Partner Technology Strategists, and overall partner support services
  • Operational Oversight & Execution – Work with operations teams to adopt, maintain and/or change business processes to ensure public cloud utilization is maximized while minimizing cost, overruns, non-optimized systems, and risk management issues. Act as the focal person for cloud FinOps knowledge, support, and execution of related tasks
  • Technical and Operations Enablement – Execute technical and operations enablement activities to ensure technical and operational teams are skilled to fully understand and leverage FinOps suggested advice for consuming public cloud services.
  • Travel – Travel will be minimal for this role.
  • Training – Ongoing professional education to enhance skills, operations, and project management

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, related field or equivalent work experience and certifications
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in technology operations, involved in the full life cycle from need to adoption. Minimum: experience with MS Azure. Preferred: MS Azure and AWS
  • Minimum: FinOps Certified Practitioner
  • Preferred: FinOps Certified Associate from FinOps Foundation
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate with peers and executives
  • Expert attention to detail and excellent organization skills
  • Experience performing project management tasks
  • Demonstrated communication and presentation skills, including formal and informal presentations to large and small audiences
  • Proven experience articulating technical viewpoints to diverse audiences, including technical and business decision makers
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and to prioritize workload under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ownership, attention to detail and follow-up skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal direction
