Head of FinOps Design and Engineering – Senior Manager

Amadeus is embarking on a journey to move major software operations to the cloud. Beyond the inevitable engineering undertaking, the migration also comes with significant changes of managing infrastructure financials.

The essence of the FinOps Design and Engineering function is to develop and drive the execution of a vision that will allow Amadeus to make the most of its cloud investment. Maximize the value for our customers by improving time to market and optimize operations for proximity, stability and efficiency.

The main responsibility of the FinOps Design and Engineering role is to lead through this change and enable the organization – our talent in engineering, DevOps, business, financial, portfolio management and other areas – to take ownership of their cloud usage and optimize locally and globally in a distributed manner.

In your duty you will drive the design and implementation of the Amadeus FinOps ecosystem consisting of financial, engineering (technical, systems, data) and process aspects. As the framework is maturing you will accentuate the FinOps Consulting function to enable R&D engineering, DevOps, BU and other teams optimize their cloud infrastructure use by applying the framework, benchmarking internally and externally and making sure best practices are acquired, devised and applied across the board. A key aspect of the role is the ability to manage, influence, align and balance across a wide set of stakeholders from very different backgrounds.

Major Responsibilities:

• Lead the FinOps change: moving from central to distributed control of managing infrastructure spend by defining and applying the Amadeus FinOps ecosystem
• Drive the selection / definition and implementation of a near real time reporting / financial observability system (Amadeus FinOps app and datalake) to enable cloud users track their cloud usage
• Drive the definition and implementation of an allocation and showback/chargeback reporting system to enable management of cloud spending, budgets and forecasts
• Provide high quality, reliable operational support of the Amadeus FinOps ecosystem and tooling to enable wide adoption of FinOps in the organization
• Implement continuous, actionable process and tooling improvements, and leveraging trough automation quality, efficiency, impact and speed
• Evolve the systems and processes along with the cloud migration and FinOps maturity through the Inform, Optimize and Operate phases
• Design and evolve the architecture of the Amadeus FinOps ecosystem
• Drive the FinOps technology strategy in line with the overall Amadeus TECH strategy
• Collect and manage the orchestration of the Product requirements to build the release plans for new releases of the FinOps ecosystem to maximize the value for BU, Engineering, Finance and other stakeholders
• Orchestrate the work using the appropriate engineering mechanism eg. SAFe to deliver the most value for the FinOps ecosystem with people both inside and outside of the team
• Foster a synergetic working relationship with FinOps Execution to enable global cloud optimization (rates, reservations) and efficient management of the cloud service provider(s)
• Together with FinOps Consultancy partner with various stakeholder organizations – engineering, DevOps, business, financial, portfolio management and other areas – to evangelize FinOps mindset and cultural change, taking ownership of cloud use, distribute knowledge applying a shared language and integrate requirements in a balanced way
• Actively identify and drive for synergies with other initiatives by implementing other similar application insight related needs, such as IT Debt
• Create a high performing team, empowering team members to learn, grow and deliver value. The team shall take ownership, communicate, and collaborate well with all stakeholders

Qualification (School, university, equivalent, etc.)

• Master’s degree and / or equivalent experience in the field of business / economics and software engineering / computer science

Know How / Skills

• Understanding of accounting and finance concepts and processes
• Proven experience in software engineering and agile practices
• Working knowledge of DevOps and FinOps
• Influencing others in a matrix or virtual organization
• Analytical and modelling skills
• System specification and design skills
• Demonstrated strong communication skills to look for alignment and influence; capable of interfacing with any Amadeus senior and top management
• Comfort working at multiple altitudes from strategic/board room level to analytic details of specific problems
• Ability to use clear and structured communication to deliver complex messages to different audiences
• Ability to manage, influence, align and balance across a wide set of stakeholders from very different backgrounds
• High organizational skills and perseverance
• Willingness to learn new things across a broad range of areas
• Good understanding of (public) cloud concepts, ideally experience with Azure, AWS or GCP
• Building and leading teams to achieve results, while developing and retaining talent within the organization

Relevant Job Experience

• 7+ years of experience in a technical operations leadership role with an emphasis towards software engineering
• Experience designing and delivering financial or comparable systems
• Experience of working in an IT financial engineering and working with public cloud
• Demonstrated communication skills as a presenter
• Demonstrated experience in creating highly engaged teams
