Senior Azure FinOps Engineer

Location: Onsite – London – 3 x days per week onsite, rest remote

Rate: £400/day Outside IR35

Length: Initial 6 months + chance for extension

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Azure FinOps Engineer to lead cloud financial operations and drive end-to-end Azure cost governance at enterprise scale. This is a senior, leadership-oriented individual contributor role for someone who can independently design, implement, and scale FinOps frameworks while influencing both technology and business stakeholders.

You will bring deep expertise in Azure cost architecture, optimization strategies, budgeting, forecasting, and automation, with the ability to translate financial insights into actionable outcomes.

What You’ll Do

Strategic FinOps Leadership

• Own and lead Azure cost optimization strategies across multiple subscriptions, landing zones, and business units
• Establish FinOps governance models, accountability structures, and cost control policies
• Drive showback/chargeback models and enterprise cloud budgeting and forecasting

Deep Cost Engineering & Optimization

• Analyze large-scale Azure consumption to identify waste, anomalies, and optimization opportunities
• Lead right-sizing, scaling optimization, storage lifecycle management, and idle resource remediation
• Optimize Azure Reservations, Savings Plans, Hybrid Benefits, and pricing models
• Provide cost-aware architectural guidance to cloud and engineering teams
• Recommend and implement greenfield FinOps solutions

Advanced Reporting & Executive Insights

• Build executive-level dashboards using Azure Cost Management, Power BI, and Azure Workbooks
• Deliver monthly C-level insights including trends, forecasts, variance analysis, and future cost projections
• Define and operationalize unit economics models (cost per application, environment, or transaction)

Automation & Operational Excellence

• Design and implement automation for tagging compliance, resource cleanup, anomaly detection, and scheduling policies
• Champion FinOps maturity across teams through governance, coaching, and best practices

What We’re Looking For

• 10–15+ years of experience in cloud financial management, FinOps, or cloud cost engineering
• Deep hands-on expertise with Azure cost optimization and enterprise cloud environments
• Strong ownership mindset with the ability to work independently at a strategic level
• Excellent stakeholder influence across engineering, finance, and leadership teams
