FinOps Analyst (Power BI)

Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to drive Civica’s cloud efforts in the collation, reporting and analysis of Public Cloud consumption.

FinOps is a recent addition to most companies’ cloud operations (after DevOps, SecOps, TechOps, etc.) and is a must-have focus with the very strong growth of public cloud spend in most organisation. This role will be responsible for the development of the FinOps capability within a team that oversees cloud efforts for Civica.

FinOps will become one of Civica’s core Cloud competency and this role will underpin its evolution and visibility across the business. Through the Cloud industry, FinOps experience is and will continue to be a highly sought-after attribute.

The successful candidate can have a significant impact on Civica’s cloud success and financial bottom line by improving the approach and methodologies of our Cloud Reporting and will play a vital role in the development of this new initiative.

The successful candidate must have at least 2 years’ experience in FinOps/Cloud Economics or a similar role.

 

Principal Accountabilities

The FinOps Analyst will:

  • Support and establish Civica’s FinOps policies & toolsets.
  • Collaborate with Civica’s Technical Services Group (TSG) to assist with the definition of the Group Architecture Standards across the Civica’s Cloud Technology Services Group (TSG). For example, Management Groups & Tagging.
  • Use Microsoft PowerBI, to create and update Consumption Dashboards across all Group tenants, subscriptions & products to show financial spend vs budget & forecast.
  • Identifying consumption trends, optimisation opportunities through the creation of custom reports.
  • Perform daily analysis of Civica’s Cloud Consumption primarily within Azure & AWS cloud technologies. This will include but not be limited to Compute, Database and Storage.
  • Collaborate with Divisional Cloud Leads and help develop estate wide consumption reports to identify areas of cost optimisation. For example, Reservations, Right Sizing, Shutdowns and Technology Upgrades.
  • Work with the Cloud Governance & FinOps Director to provide cost forecasting across the Cloud estates & consider planned / proposed changes & the impact on current spend.
  • Create & maintain any relevant process documentation for internal stakeholders.

 

Requirements

Essential Competencies

  • Experience running FinOps activities with cost savings demonstrated in an IT environment
  • Have a real interest in data and driving business outcomes from it, providing detailed analysis of our Cloud consumption across all Cloud tenants and all Cloud technologies.
  • Strong understanding of Public Cloud Cost Management & Analysis Tools. For example, Azure Cost Management, AWS Cost Explorer.
  • Strong Power BI / Microsoft Excel Skills
  • Build & maintain relationships within the Civica Divisions to promote a collaborative approach to the FinOps activities.
  • A self-driven and analytical mindset
  • Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and understandable way to all stakeholders
  • Sense of ownership to follow tasks through to completion.
  • Experience in Cloud technologies and /or data analytics.
  • Collaborative & continuous improvement mindset, knowledge sharing and ability to positively influence cost saving outcomes.
  • Excellent presentation skills; with a self-driven with a positive approach to a variety of challenges.
  • Understanding of Civica’s internal structures and dynamics preferred
