Cloud FinOps Analyst (Capacity Management)

The role

We are looking to recruit a Cloud FinOps Analyst to support the expansion of our FinOps function. You’ll be responsible for providing detailed capacity data analysis of our Cloud consumption across all Cloud venues and all Cloud hosted technologies. Working alongside other members of the FinOps team you will be identifying consumption trends, detecting anomalies in usage, optimisation opportunities and creating custom capacity reports and dashboards to be delivered to internal stakeholders.

We can offer this role across the UK, but you will be required to visit our office in London from time to time for collaboration.

Who you’ll be working with

At DLG we are delivering a set of plans to transform our technology for the future, evolving the systems, platforms, and infrastructure that our people use day-to-day. You’ll join our wider ‘Core Technology’ team whose mission is to design, deliver and collaborate to enable foundational services. Within this, you’ll be part of the Infrastructure Platforms team and report to our Capacity Manager, Tyrone Forbes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide customised reporting and dashboards to internal stakeholders to provide a view on capacity trends, plans and actual costs vs budget and the drivers of the spend and peaks in usage.
  • Ensure capacity / performance / availability requirements are optimised and cost justified
  • Perform daily data analysis of our Cloud consumption across all Cloud venues and all cloud technologies
  • Work within the Cloud FinOps team to identify Cost Optimisation Opportunities and inform the business and technical owners. Including but not limited to Rightsizing, Reservations, Savings Plans, Wastage Removal, technology upgrades.
  • Work with other Cloud FinOps team members to provide cost forecasting across the Cloud estate considering proposed/planned changes, new workloads planned to be cloud hosted in the future and comparing Cloud costs across AWS, Azure, GCP.
  • Collaborate with the Procurement team to report on enterprise level commitments vs consumption and future consumption
  • Alongside our Software Asset Management team, you will work to help identify software renewals or new software procurement that could use a cloud-based Market Place to achieve a lower price point and assist burn down enterprise level commitments.
  • Work together with Supplier Governance team to track consumption vs commitment across agreements purchased via Market Place

What you’ll need:

We want to set you up for success so here are some of the key skills we are looking for… don’t worry if you don’t tick them all we’d still love to hear from you…

  • Understanding of FinOps practice including key principles, domains and capabilities.
  • Some knowledge and experience with AWS and Azure technologies. (Foundation level)
  • A curious, data driven and analytical mindset
  • Previous experience in technology and/or finance or data analytics
  • Collaborative and continuous improvement mindset; ability to positively influence the team
  • Preferable to have experience of Cloud management tools such as AWS cost explorer, Cloudwatch, Azure Cost Management & Cloudability.
  • Knowledge IT Service management tools e.g. ServiceNow, Atlassian would be beneficial
