About Us
Exstratus executes cloud cost management programs for companies worldwide, as part of our unique model delivering a comprehensive FinOps program as a service. We help companies spending millions of dollars per year on their cloud infrastructure to create customer value through FinOps, DevOps, and Cloud Architecture best practices.
Role Summary
The FinOps Program Manager is the strategic leader of a service team on a FinOps engagement, owning and driving the relationships with key client stakeholders among the executive team and finance organization. They manage a team of FinOps Analysts and Cloud Architects on a small number of FinOps engagements to help our customers maximize the value of Cloud and SaaS. As Program Manager, they align the FinOps program with current and future goals of the business, developing a FinOps roadmap and driving its execution to ensure success in reaching those goals. A successful candidate will also bring extensive knowledge of FinOps best practices and deep understanding of cloud financial management.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the FinOps Program is meeting the needs and expectations of each client
- Coach, manage, and develop their team of FinOps Analysts and Cloud Engineers
- Evaluate performance and make final hiring and termination decisions for their team
- Prepare and deliver polished, business-relevant client status updates, strategic reviews, and planning meetings
- Organize internal sync meetings to coordinate the priority and direction of ongoing FinOps Program efforts
- Direct the Lead Cloud Analyst and their analyst team to new areas where data or analysis are needed, iterating with that team as required to find actionable insights
- Ensure that any resulting insights are properly turned into actionable business recommendations, ensuring clients receive opinionated advice that can be acted upon
- Ensure business justification data is made available on recommendations such as ROI and investment break-even date calculations, where applicable
- Work with Lead Cloud Analyst to direct refinement of client-facing information, such as spreadsheets, charts, slides, and other visualizations
- Ensure new learnings from each engagement are shared with the rest of the organization to raise the collective subject matter expertise of the FinOps delivery organization

Recommended skills & knowledge
- Prior experience leading or playing a key role in a FinOps or cloud financial management function in an organization whose primary infrastructure is in the cloud
- At least 2 years of experience managing cloud costs or doing cloud cost analytics work
- At least 3 years of past experience in a role managing team members, including responsibility for performance evaluation and making hiring decisions for their team
- Understanding of organizational and financial concepts as it pertains to SaaS companies
- Working knowledge of FinOps best practices and the FinOps framework
- Strong math and numerical reasoning skills
- Intermediate to advanced experience with spreadsheets (e.g., Excel or Google Sheets)
- Proficiency in the use of standard office applications (e.g., Microsoft Office suite or Google Apps suite)
- Strong knowledge of what the commonly used services are in public cloud platforms and the models used to charge for usage of those services
- Strong knowledge of the options available in public cloud platforms to reduce the amount paid for services which will be part of the cloud infrastructure long-term
- A good understanding of how and when it makes sense to rightsize cloud infrastructure
- Familiarity with basic computer systems concepts (CPU, RAM/physical memory, virtual memory, drive storage, etc.)
- Familiarity with modern computer systems architectures and components (web servers, API’s, databases, file servers, networking, etc.)
Bonus skills & knowledge
- Existing FinOps Certified Practitioner certification is a plus!
- Past hands-on experience implementing unit cost and unit margin capabilities is a plus!
- Familiarity with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and web-based code repository management (git/GitHub, or similar)
- Familiarity with doing FinOps and cloud financial management on multiple cloud platforms
