Back to FinOps Jobs

FinOps Analyst

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior FinOps (Financial Operations) specialist to drive transparency, control, and efficiency across our cloud and related technology spend. You will work at the intersection of Finance, Business Units, and IT (including Infrastructure and DevOps teams) to design and operate best‑in‑class financial processes around cloud usage, billing, and cost optimisation.

Your primary focus will be to establish and continuously improve our end‑to‑end financial operations lifecycle – from quote generation and forecasting, through real‑time cost management, to invoicing and client reporting – with strong governance, tagging, and categorisation.

What the day will look like

Cloud Financial Operations & Governance

  • Own and evolve the FinOps framework and practices across the organisation, with a focus on cloud (IaaS/PaaS/SaaS) and related infrastructure spend.
  • Define, implement, and maintain governance standards for:
  • Account/subscription structures
  • Cost centres and project codes
  • Tagging strategies and metadata
  • Chargeback/showback models
  • Ensure accurate allocation of cloud and infrastructure costs to business units, products, and clients.

Cost Transparency, Reporting & Analytics

  • Design and maintain (near) real‑time dashboards and reports that give business and account owners clear visibility of:
  • Cloud spend by client, environment, business unit, product, and service
  • Forecast vs actual usage and cost trends
  • Anomalies, spikes, or deviations from expected patterns
  • Partner with Finance and business stakeholders to support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for technology and cloud spend.
  • Translate complex financial and technical data into clear, actionable insights for non‑technical stakeholders.

Tooling, Automation & Process Improvement

  • Evaluate, implement, and manage FinOps / cloud cost management tools (e.g. native cloud provider tools and/or third‑party platforms) for:
  • Usage and cost analytics
  • Invoice and chargeback generation
  • Tagging compliance and governance
  • Alerting and anomaly detection
  • Design and improve processes across the full lifecycle:
  • Quote and proposal generation (including cost modelling)
  • Real‑time / near real‑time cost monitoring
  • Internal and client‑facing invoicing and billing
  • Collaborate with IT and operations teams to automate data flows between cloud platforms, finance systems, and reporting tools, reducing manual effort and errors.

Partnering with Infrastructure & DevOps

  • Work closely with Infrastructure, Platform, and DevOps teams to:
  • Provide cost implications for architecture and change proposals.
  • Quantify cost trade offs of design decisions (e.g. performance vs cost, reserved vs on demand, storage tiers, etc.).
  • Embed cost awareness and FinOps practices into CI/CD pipelines and operational processes.
  • Contribute to the review of new services and environments to ensure they align with financial and tagging standards from day one.

Client Transparency & Invoicing

  • Ensure clients receive clear, traceable, and accurate invoices that map to their consumption and agreed commercial models.
  • Work with account managers and finance teams to:
  • Support client queries on invoices and cost breakdowns.
  • Provide periodic cost reviews and recommendations for optimisation.
  • Design and maintain standard templates and reports for client facing financial transparency (e.g. cost breakdowns by service, environment, and project).

Success in this role will include:

  • Business users and client owners have reliable, self‑service access to (near) real‑time information on the costs of their environments.
  • High tagging and allocation accuracy, with the majority of spend correctly categorised to clients, products, and cost centres.
  • Early detection of spend anomalies, with automated alerts and clear escalation paths to the right technical and business teams.
  • Reduced manual effort and errors in quote creation, invoicing, and reporting through improved processes and tooling.
  • Measurable improvements in cloud cost efficiency and predictability without compromising required service levels.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • 6–10 years of total experience, with at least 3+ years in a FinOps, Cloud Financial Management, Technology Finance, or closely related role.
  • Hands‑on experience working within a FinOps or cloud cost management environment, partnering closely with:
  • Finance / FP&A / Controllership
  • Business Units / Product Owners
  • IT, Infrastructure, and DevOps teams
  • Strong analytical skills with experience handling large datasets, building dashboards, and performing cost/usage analysis.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP) and their billing, cost management, and tagging capabilities.
  • Experience with tooling related to:
  • Cloud cost analysis and optimisation
  • Invoice and billing generation
  • Cloud infrastructure management and tagging strategies
  • Quoting and pricing processes
  • Proven ability to design and improve processes spanning quote‑to‑cash, cost allocation, and client billing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a services, managed services, or multi‑tenant client environment, where cloud and infrastructure costs must be allocated per client.
  • Exposure to or certification in FinOps or cloud financial management disciplines (e.g. FinOps Foundation).
  • Experience integrating cloud cost tools with financial systems (ERP, billing platforms, etc.).
  • Knowledge of SQL, BI tools, or scripting (e.g. Python) for custom reports and automations is a plus.
  • Experience working in global or distributed teams.

Core Competencies

  • Analytical thinking:Able to interpret complex Azure/AWS usage and billing data, identify patterns and anomalies, and recommend actions.
  • Technical understanding:Comfortable understanding how cloud and infrastructure architectures on Azure and AWS are designed, and how decisions impact cost.
  • Communication:Clear written and verbal communication; able to explain financial and technical concepts to different audiences.
  • Stakeholder management:Confident working with senior stakeholders in Finance, Technology, and Business Units.
  • Attention to detail:High accuracy in financial calculations, cost allocation, tagging rules, and invoicing outputs.
  • Ownership mindset:Proactive, outcome‑oriented, and comfortable taking end‑to‑end responsibility for your domains.
