FinOps Manager-(REMOTE)

GEICO’s FinOps team is looking for a driven manager with demonstrated experience building and maturing Cloud FinOps capabilities. Our goals are focused on financial operations in a transformative way to capitalize on savings opportunities, implement cost-cutting measures, and ensure our cloud spend measured up to our low-cost provider operating principle.

Responsibilities:

The manager of this department will drive a cohesive strategy that will focus on increasing our savings while improving spend reporting, governance, and driving process improvement. The manager will grow FinOps team to ensure operational success of the GEICO’s cloud expansion strategy and empower our service leaders to make cost-aware engineering decisions – for example should GEICO consider serverless/consumption-based architectures to significantly reduce the cloud consumption and to build an enterprise-scale Cloud Data Analytics Platform.

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical, cross-team collaboration, and multi-tasking skills that can execute and deliver quickly. The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include:

  • Create metrics, reports, and recommended remediation options and plans for financial excellence in the cloud
  • Engage regularly with Business Service Leaders, IT Directors and Officers as their primary financial and technical point of contact
  • Participate in deep architectural discussions to help product teams are making the most cost-efficient choices
  • Drive cost optimization efforts by collaborating with Finance and Engineering teams across the enterprise, recommending and purchasing reserved instances & savings plans across Snowflake, Databricks, Azure, and other Cloud providers such as Azure, AWS, IBM and GCP.
  • Partner with our Cloud Governance Council to ensure appropriate tagging and alerts strategies are deployed and maintained at scale to manage costs
  • Work with product teams to accurately cost out implementations
  • Develop and maintain KPIs, scorecards, and standard metrics

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional experience with Technology Operations, Cloud Infrastructure, Data Analytics, Software Engineering/Development, etc.
  • 2+ years demonstrated experience in public cloud knowledge (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc):
  • Deep passion for cloud technology and ability to articulate the cloud value proposition in both technical and financial aspects
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills in both technical and non-technical contexts
  • Significant experience with cost optimization techniques
  • Experience in building out a FinOps subject area
  • Deep cost management knowledge including but not limited to chargeback modeling, cost savings and avoidance tracking, trending and variance analysis and forecasting
  • Practical knowledge of native cloud provider cost management capabilities and pricing models
  • Experience in cost anomaly detection, rightsizing, tagging and storage lifecycle policies, and automation
  • Analytical skills to collect, coordinate and present sophisticated data to a variety of audiences
  • Experience in developing KPI’s and scorecards based on internal and industry benchmarks
