DevOps Engineer (FinOps)

Role Description

This is a brand-new role within the business and Informa is seeking a Senior Financial Operations Engineer (FinOps).  This is a leadership role within a fantastic organization with a great culture and will serve as the catalyst for delivering a consistent approach to managing the resource and cost usage across the Informa cloud environments.

Working closely with Finance, and business stakeholders, the purpose of this high-profile role is to ensure that the Informa divisions are using cloud resources effectively, eliminating unnecessary spend, investing in the right services. and obtaining clear visibility on usage.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to take their existing DevOps skills and develop them within a highly federated business with a strong aspiration to gain increased return on their investment in the cloud.  Informa is a highly acquisitive organization, so we are continually integrating other companies, so there are opportunities to gain exposure to new technologies and new business models.  As a business we will offer training and development to support this, as well as the opportunity to certify in FinOps, and appropriate Cloud technologies.

Key Deliverables.

  • Building, and maturing a FinOps practice that can optimise investment and identify opportunities for managing costs positively.
  • Working with various engineering and Finance teams to deliver positive influence in relation to operational and project Capex.
  • Agreeing, forecasting, and tracking cloud expenditure plans in collaboration with each of the divisions, operating at a platform and product level where necessary.
  • Using your technical experience to ensure that cost control has an influence over the reference-based architectures used within Informa, and that tools, techniques, and best practices are applied during project execution to manage costs within forecasts.
  • Ensuring that cost management is factored into what we build, and processes are in place to remediate any cost overage.
  • Building a network of like-minded individuals – FinOps champions across the group divisions to ensure that identified opportunities are executed, and that investment decisions are well managed in line with forecasted goals.
  • Delivering best practice, you will be adept and gaining stakeholder buy in to cost management principles and influencing key investment decisions in a positive way.
  • Configuring tooling and workflows to ensure that overspend is flagged, opportunities for savings are tracked and executed, and providing persona-based reporting to show progress at a divisional and product level.
  • Providing senior stakeholders with the opportunity to understand where they can make changes to maximise their return on investment within the cloud.

 

An ideal candidate will have 3 – 5 years’ experience in Cloud Operations or DevOps and will have a strong understanding of financial management in the cloud at an Enterprise scale.  The position requires strong leadership and team building skills and must be able to collaborate effectively with a group of high performing architects, engineers & managers that work within Informa’s broader operating divisions.  You should be able to evidence where you have been successful in a similar role and be willing to provide examples at interview.

Qualifications

It would be great if you had some AWS certifications or qualifications with other cloud vendors.  This is a specialist role, so any certification in relation to FinOps would be fantastic, althought training and development will be offered.
