Job Description 

The purpose of the CCB Cloud Business Office (CBO) Lead is to play a pivotal role in providing frameworks, tooling, and advice for a global community of developers and engineers across the following functions:

 

  • FinOps Federated Financial Tracking and Transparency
  • AWS Resource Management and Optimization
  • Training and Skill Development
  • Communications
  • Dashboards and Reports
  • Branding
  • Awards and Badges

 

The Cloud Business Office (CBO) Lead role will establish a dedicated function within the PCE Team for cloud service consumption management inclusive of billing/invoicing, forecasting, charge-back, reporting, and optimization. This role will interface directly with CCB finance teams, Center of Excellence teams across CCB Head of Technologies, Global Technology Team and external cloud service providers (e.g., AWS) to effectively manage cloud spend across CCB line of business. The role will dig into massive datasets to build hypothesis, action plans, and execution strategies for increasing CCB’s return on investment in our public cloud investments.

The CBO Lead will be a trusted subject matter expert to help the Public Cloud Enablement team to continuously improve its communications approaches, by establishing processes to deliver professional, consistent messages across a range of communications channels and audiences. The role will build mechanisms to deliver a regular cadence of communications, assist in creating compelling content, and ensure CCB employees feel connected to the public cloud mission.

The CBO Lead will establish and maintain an enterprise cloud optimization strategy. The optimization strategy requires instilling a continuous efficiency mindset across the enterprise that considers all facets of cost and usage within established cloud solutions. Strategy implementation will include the creation of a defined process methodology, continuous reporting, identification, and pursuit of optimization opportunities with consumers, and use of cloud service provider features to control spend (e.g., Reserved Instances, Savings Plans).

The CBO lead role will also own the strategy, development and implementation of learning experiences, including training and upskilling.

The CBO lead position will also provide dashboarding and executive level reporting on cloud expense, budget, and savings per provider, and in a single pane view for all CCB products and cloud providers. This position builds relationships with partner groups such as Global Technology and CCB Finance for better coordination on cloud impacts and costs and use of cloud management tools and broader reporting within CCB. A strong data-driven approach, with comprehensive automation and tooling will be required to sufficiently scale Business Office functionality across the CCB line of business.

Working within the Public Cloud Enablement Team is to be at the cutting edge of cloud technology within the context of the world’s leading financial organization, at a time when adoption of these technologies is increasing rapidly.

The CBO lead role will drive the branding of the CCB Public cloud enablement team as well as award digital badges as rewards and motivation for learning and development.

Roles and Responsibilities include:

  • Develop comprehensive cloud consumption and optimization reporting utilizing both native and 3rd party systems to provide near real-time insights into spend performance and opportunities for improvement.
  • Implement dashboarding and executive level reporting on cloud expense, budget, and savings per provider, and in a single pane view for all CCB products and cloud providers.
  • Interface regularly with Global Technology and Cloud Service Providers (like AWS) to manage billing/invoicing, and to create/maintain spend forecasts.
  • Interact with CCB Product and finance teams to provide guidance on charge-back activities, and to resolve disputes.
  • Develop a centralized process for management of reserved instances and savings plans. Establish a cadence of recommendations and purchases aimed towards reducing overall spend.
  • Work directly with Site Reliability Engineering Lead to develop an enterprise cloud optimization strategy for CCB’s public cloud environments.
  • Design a strategic approach for effective resource utilization – Work directly with CCB Product teams to provide insights into their cloud usage and costs; provide optimization recommendations based on both present and future planned cloud usage patterns.
  • Execute approved cost reduction initiatives for which PCE has approved authority including (but not limited to): right-sizing, asset disposition, establishing power down profiles, etc.
  • Leverage and extend cloud service provider tools and APIs around cost management, budgets, and optimization recommendations.
  • Work collaboratively with external parties including cloud suppliers (e.g., AWS) as part of reporting and optimization activities.
  • Commit to ongoing learning and professional development.
  • Implement public cloud learning journeys for various profiles to effectively train and upskill CCB software engineers and production support teams and SREs on public cloud.
  • Strategize with CCB product, support and SRE teams to understand specific learning needs. Conduct scoping sessions and make recommendations.
  • Launch and run learning campaigns across CCB to ensure that the training initiative is achieving the desired objectives.
  • Provide reports, metrics, and reviews (CCB skill dashboards, training metrics, training consumption, etc.) to key stakeholders.
  • Drive communication across CCB line of business of the JPMorgan Chase Cloud Community of Practice
  • Collaborate with stakeholders for forecast modeling for Finance on projected trend for Public Cloud Costs. Drive pricing estimations/reviews for requests to move to Public Cloud.
  • Deliver leadership briefings, reports, and continuous communication related to state of CBO engagements
  • Coordination of AWS Quarterly Business reviews and Semi-Annual AWS Executive Strategy Meeting
  • Oversee high profile internal events like cloud parties and hackathons.
  • Manage a communications community of practice with other communications teams
  • Contribute to building toolkits, templates, training, and processes to promote self-service and communication best practices within the organization.
  • Lead the branding of the CCB Public Cloud Enablement Team to help establish promote it’s mission, vision and value; create a loyal stakeholder base, and build a solid influence within CCB.
  • Implement various levels of Awards and Cloud proficiency badges in recognition of an employee’s training/certification/contribution in public cloud

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Candidates must be highly motivated and capable of working independently
  • Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, with experience utilizing cloud technologies
  • 5+ years of cloud-specific experience with Amazon Web Services; demonstrated experience with AWS Cost Management tools is required
  • 2+ years of experience in managing IT budgets, developing forecasts, and billing/invoicing activities
  • Highly disciplined in general financial management
  • Comfortability with Windows, Macintosh, and Linux operating systems
  • Proven people leader and team builder
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Ability to adapt to changing requirements and constraints
  • Ability to use creative thinking and advanced problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Master’s degree in finance is preferred.
  • Experience using data analytics tools like Tableau, Qliksense or AWS QuickSight are highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of Atlassian Confluence and Jira is desired.
  • Experience with other cloud service providers like Microsoft Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform is desired.
  • Cloud certifications, particularly in AWS (Foundational, Associate or Professional) are desired.
