Cloud FinOps Leader
Cloud Program Mission
Provide a secure world class cloud platform that enables NextEra Energy IT teams to consume Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) in a way that is standardized, self-service, scalable, and cost optimized.
Position Specific Description
The Cloud FinOps Leader creates value in our organization by running well-managed, financially optimized public and private clouds. Responsible for strategic management of public and private cloud costs. Develop and execute projects to reduce cost and improve efficiency through automation and process improvements. Report monthly on public and private cloud cost consumption compared to targets and other key metrics.
Responsibilities
- Leads cost optimization for public and private cloud
- Leads FinOps practice across internal cloud consumers
- Develops and maintains cloud cost forecast with 3 year outlook
- Leads capital and operating cost planning for public and private cloud
- Negotiates discounts with cloud service providers and hardware / software suppliers
- Leads planning and execution of cloud discount programs
- Develops strategies for cloud cost optimization
- Delivers executive reports monthly on cloud cost compared to forecast, discount program status, cost optimization performance, and other key metrics
- Ensures all cloud costs are properly charged to internal teams and applications
- Assist internal customers with cloud cost forecasting for new projects
- Review architecture for new projects and advise internal customers on best practice for cost optimization
- Process owner for cloud processes related to FinOps
- Product owner for development of automation and self-service to optimize FinOps processes
- Work with IT Financial team and Accounting team for development and maintenance of standards related to cloud costs
- Participate in special interest groups for cloud financial optimization
- Leverage industry standard processes and terms to inform and mature the FinOps practice
Essential Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science related field or equivalent experience
- 2+ years designing, engineering, or supporting the use of public cloud services in a medium to large company
- 2+ years planning strategic projects, budgets, financial forecasting, and data analysis
- Experience contracting work with third-party companies
