Cloud FinOps Specialist

As a FinOps Team member you will help build, operationalize and support the practice across NT teams. Role outcomes include but are not limited to:

  • Monitor cloud spend day to day and prepare weekly & monthly reports for review of Cloud spend.
  • Collate, analyze and prioritize cloud optimization recommendations and calculate potential savings
  • Provide expert knowledge of cloud cost optimization strategies (e.g. rightsizing, power scheduling)
  • Ensuring optimization recommendations go through the appropriate governance process and get actioned
  • Collaborate with Engineering teams to implement cost optimization recommendations and best practices
  • When not fully utilised by cloud FinOps engagement, join the platform technology teams daily activities to support the bullish exchange infrastructure.
  • Manage, implement and optimize cloud rate optimization recommendations (RIs and savings plans in Azure) in collaboration with product/app owners, engineers, architects, BU CIOs, et al.
  • Regularly track, monitor and report on RI/SP savings, coverage and utilization for NT
  • Maximize use of Azure hybrid benefit for Windows Server and MS-SQL in Azure public cloud
  • Assume responsibility and/or assist with quarterly updates to public cloud spend forecasts in collaboration with the Cloud Infrastructure team, FinOps and Tech Finance
  • Optimize cost allocation and tagging strategy to eliminate or minimize unallocated cloud spend
  • Assist the Cloud Infrastructure team with optimizing the overall FinOps program at NT including implementation of usage optimization strategies for anomaly detection and cost alerts
  • Measure/track all savings opportunities including decisions on right-sizing recommendations
  • Recommend and implement improvements to cloud tooling in Azure portal and Flexera CCO
  • Leverage experience to broaden overall Cloud Infrastructure program by undertaking additional responsibilities as required, and managing overall MS responsibilities (Cloud SaaS reservations, MS license true-up, billing and reporting on all Microsoft cloud costs)
  • Communicate with Microsoft, third-party cloud solution providers (e.g., Flexera, Anglepoint) and vendor management in relation to all Microsoft cloud services and negotiation of Az SLA credits

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Computer Science or Information Systems
  • 4+ years of professional experience with ITAM, Cloud FinOps or Tech Finance
  • Experience and working knowledge of Flexera Cloud Cost Optimization and native cloud cost management tooling or cloud cost optimization platforms
  • Experience working with FinOps subject area within a large enterprise
  • Prior experience building custom reports and dashboards
    • Experience with Microsoft forecast Flexera cloud cost dashboards a plus
  • Practical knowledge of cloud provider cost management capabilities and pricing models
  • Experience with third party cloud aggregator software in reserved instance and savings plan recommendations, tagging policies, forecasting, anomaly detection and storage lifecycle policies
  • Analytical skills to collect, coordinate and present sophisticated data to variety of audiences
  • Ability to drive change management ideas and experience to increase program success
  • Results-driven, detail and goal-oriented
  • Analytical thinker with sharp communication and collaboration skills
  • Passion for FinOps, presenting/sharing knowledge, with strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Knowledge of Cloud FinOps (FinOps Certified Cloud Practitioner certification is a plus)
  • Experience managing Microsoft licenses, vendor relationships and/or costs a plus
