Staff FinOps Engineer

The Role

The Cloud Center of Excellence in partnership with Finance is seeking a Cloud FinOps Engineer, whose responsibility will be to ensure we get the most value out of every dollar we spend in the cloud. As a Cloud FinOps Engineer, you will be an integral member of the Cloud Center of Excellence continuously innovating and improving our path on cloud financial controls and optimization, while helping to drive a culture of accountability regarding efficient cloud usage/spend.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Deep understanding of AWS cloud-based services, usage models and pricing with hands on experience.
  • Past performance in information technology, as a business/data analyst with the unique ability to bridge finance and technology.
  • Analyze spend trends, opportunities for savings, and offer advisory services with specific improvement recommendations.
  • Work with distributed teams to influence strategy, tactics, and execution of cloud usage.
  • Strong understanding of how to translate development team requirements into cost effective cloud-based solutions, ability to partner cross-organizationally and drive cost optimization discussions.
  • Experience managing reoccurring software budgets, tracking actuals, and managing renewals.
  • A passion for learning new technologies, practices, and ways of working.
  • Hands on experience working with teams developing API’s, automation and instilling an API first culture.
  • Understanding of serverless (Lambda) and container technologies (Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Experience working in an agile environment and helping teams with limited agile experience.
  • Ability to into strategic insights and practical recommendations.
  • Ability to manage deliverables independently and with a high degree of efficiency.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, conceptual thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience facilitating budgetary meetings with stakeholders and finance aligning spend to budgets, highlighting deviations and developing remediation strategies.
  • Experience influencing development teams to understand and implement cost effective scalable solutions.
  • Experience working with finance to forecast cloud spend and identify spending anomalies.
  • Self-motivated, independent, and strategic thinker.
  • Attention to detail.

  • Cloud Certifications – Amazon Web Services (AWS), FinOps Certified

This role can be performed from any office in the US. The pay range for this position is $92,936-$201-701; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual bonus and restricted stock unit grant based on individual performance in addition to a full range of benefits outlined here.
