Principal, Cloud Financial Manager

We are starting our Cloud FinOps team and you will be the first person in the team, reporting to our VP of Operations.

 

You will be responsible to guarantee that cloud spend is optimized and in target with forecasts as well as drive our unit costs down by understanding our usage of cloud, managing capacity reservations, identifying cost outliers and improvements in usage. You will also be a key stakeholder on pricing and providing support and cost awareness to the engineering teams. Your Day-to-Day

  • Own the cost management process.
  • Lead monthly cost operating reviews both at the business and development levels.
  • Build all the reporting and data required to provide visibility of cost and cost related KPIs.
  • Recommend capacity reservations (Reserved Instances, Saving Plans or equivalent).
  • Keep track of consumption commitments with cloud providers.
  • Make recommendations to help reduce ongoing cost.
  • Own cost forecast tools to support pricing decisions.
  • Establish and track cost efficiency metrics per product or feature.
  • Assist in establishing and iterating on a resource tagging policy.

 

Your Know-How

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years working in cloud computing or IT infrastructure/platform role.
  • 5+ years of experience with AWS and/or Azure and/or GCP cost management or cost optimization responsibilities.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent documentation skills/methodologies, who can successfully manage multiple priorities.
  • Good understanding of basic financial planning concepts.

 

Your Possible Additional Know-How

  • Experience with financial planning and analysis.
  • Cost Management Certifications (from public cloud providers or FinOps foundation).
  • Knowledge of cloud cost products (e.g., Cost Explorer, Azure Portal).
  • Knowledge of cloud management and governance tools (e.g., Cloudability, Spot.IO, Cloud Custodian, Trusted Advisor).
