BMS is seeking a highly skilled and experienced, hands-on Senior Director of Cloud Operations. In this role you will be a leader of people, cloud strategy, process, and technology reporting to the Vice President, Hosting & Productivity Services.

As Senior Director of Cloud Operations you will lead a team of highly motivated engineers tasked with the support of Cloud application workloads ensuring the reliability, scalability and performance of our company’s systems and applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Cloud Dev/Ops, SRE, Software optimization, operations and will lead a diverse and cross-functional technical teams.


The position requires an experienced Senior Cloud Architect and strong leader with a focus on cloud native services, DevOps, machine learning systems, Infrastructure-As-Code delivery models, Cloud Security, IT/data architecture. The team will be responsible for driving innovation in the cloud and provide a long-term executable vision for the company’s objectives delivering an innovative and sustainable cloud practice. The ideal candidate should have expertise in cloud-based services, with expert-level experience in AWS and additional experience in GCP or Azure being a plus.


As we scale the organization, our goal is to build foundational capabilities and self-service tools that enable engineering teams to innovate on the product experience. In this role, you will be responsible for setting the vision and strategy for sustaining reliable cloud native applications and will have the opportunity to empower and impact Enterprise Engineering and Development teams.



  • Lead Cloud operations Engineering service strategy, design, and operating model.
  • Design Cloud operations service delivery approach and recommend tools.
  • Lead and manage a team of Infrastructure engineers to ensure reliability, resiliency, efficiency and performance of applications by building capabilities (Circuit breakers, standardized monitoring, alert routing, etc.)
  • Lead a team focused on provide technical solutions on both cloud and hosted solutions.
  • Support and Maintain shared services software stack and explore services to support Full Stack management.
  • Coach and develop employees and be a mentor at all levels of the organization on cloud strategy and usage.
  • Serve as a senior-level technical contact for enterprise customers and assure they realize full benefit of cloud services.
  • Deep understanding of SRE principles and practices and ability to innovate and adapt the service to meet and advance company cloud strategy.
  • Provide guidance to internal development teams on cloud operations architecture, engineering, and standards and ensure they are followed.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of the company’s systems and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Support and use the BMS DevOps delivery model and agile project delivery methodology.
  • Understand cloud usage costs and FinOps practices and deliver cloud cost optimization solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in support of the standards for cloud-based applications and services.
  • Support an agile methodology and continuously strive to improve and enhance the service offering.
  • Be creative in automating manual processes and write code to expedite detection and mitigation of performance degradation proactively.
  • Have scripting skills in at least one language, i.e., Python, Node.js, Ruby, PowerShell, Bash, etc.
  • Have experience using Jira, creating issues and managing project deliverables through stories, tasks and using agile scrum processes and sprints to achieve objectives.
  • Have familiarity with industry regulations and quality standards in a pharmaceutical industry.
  • Have experience using ITIL processes, ideally managed using ServiceNow.
  • Have knowledge of AWS Well Architected Framework and Tools.
  • The ideal candidate should have an in-depth knowledge of a wide variety of the BMS Cloud services (AWS), beyond just EC2s and Databases. Expertise in serverless, managed services, API-Governance, Basic Networking, AWS big data, ML, and AI services is required.

  • Must have hands-on and deep dive coding expertise, not just architecture theory. The candidate must have hands-on experience with cloud projects and be willing to dive in.
  • The candidate should have demonstrated knowledge or experience with AWS Service Catalog, CloudFormation at scale and reuse, and the ability to influence multiple workstreams with reusable IaC components.
  • Must have experience with managing substantial numbers of cloud accounts consistently using automation. Cloud SDK, CLI and scripting hands-on knowledge is necessary.
  • Understanding in and experience in Cloud security and access models
  • Create and provide technical leadership and vision for multiple teams by guiding internal development teams on cloud architecture, engineering, and operational standards and ensure they are followed.
  • Responsible for Proposals, Investment Planning and budgeting and long-term Cloud strategy for BMS


Education Requirements and Professional and Technical Expertise:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or commensurate experience
  • At least 15+ years of experience in DEV/OPS, software development and/or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)
  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership or management role
  • Experience with financial planning for projects and managing a budget.
  • Outstanding leadership and organizational skills
  • Strong knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (content creation such as whitepapers, architecture diagrams, etc.).
  • Ability to explain complex technology concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences at all levels in the organization.
  • The candidate should have experience in breaking down projects into MVP and Agile deliverables, delivering complex end systems incrementally.
  • Experience on AWS technologies, building Platform as a Service (PaaS) capabilities that enable teams to build cloud native applications without the need to understand the underlying infrastructure.
  • Deep understanding of Scaled Agile fundamentals and mental models that promote strong execution.
