The Global FinOps Manager serves as a member of the Cloud Operations team within the Global Operations organization at Syntax. This role has responsibilities across multiple Syntax areas related to public cloud financial operations (FinOps) across all public clouds sold and supported at Syntax, and will work with teams such as Sales, Product Management, Account Management, Operations Management, and Finance. The position will be responsible, under the guidance of the VP – Cloud Services, for developing a global Syntax public cloud FinOps engagement model, KPIs, and strategy to support Syntax public cloud customers, as well as serving as Service Owner for Public Cloud FinOps at Syntax. This may include utilizing internal Syntax strategy and information, as well as staying current with the capabilities and offerings of each hyperscaler (AWS, Azure, OCI). The Global FinOps Manager will have high visibility to customers to provide guidance, service, and strategic advice regarding cloud best practices, Syntax recommendations, and optimization. Internally, the role will provide day-to-day guidance, leadership, and support to all FinOps Analysts globally and will hire, train, promote, coach, and mentor staff.
Responsibilities
- Direct the day-to-day activities of the FinOps analyst team, globally
- Review and approve timecards (employee/contractor), purchase orders, expense reports, etc.
- Hire, train, promote, coach, and mentor staff, across all levels of performance
- Serve in both strategic and tactical roles for the team as required (70% strategic, 30% tactical)
- Serve as senior-level advisor/escalation point for complex analysis and requirements
- Collaborate with peers and leaders across other teams – Account Management, Product Management, Sales/Pre-Sales, Professional Services, Operations – in support of Syntax customers
- Drive discussion, innovation, and ultimately consensus within the team and within Syntax
- Develop and maintain the Global FinOps engagement model, based on a variety of factors such as customer size, roadmap, requirements, and staffing levels/capabilities
- Lead analysis, testing, and support for internal initiatives, projects, and products designed to enhance company tools and capabilities
- Create and maintain standards for data analysis, presentations, and explanations that are clear and concise for both internal and external stakeholders
- Develop and measure KPIs and team goals; make decisions and adjustments based on analysis to maximize both the employee and customer experiences
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years’ experience leading teams
- Experience working in the infrastructure/hosting space, including prior experience with Public Cloud billing/financial analysis/economic analysis
- Strong finance background/ acumen and deep experience building Excel spreadsheet models
- High-level technical knowledge of Public Cloud services and tools, plus AWS Cloud Practitioner/Azure AZ900 certs or willing to obtain within first 6 months
- FinOps Certification – minimum Practitioner level
- Industry involvement, thought leadership, tracking of and familiarity with new products, services, strategies in the public cloud space
- Solid experience implementing and using business analytics platforms, packages, and tools
- Clear, professional communication skills – listening, speaking, presenting, and writing
- High degree of ownership, independence, and decision-making
- Leverage all available resources to manage KPIs, make data-driven decisions, and drive specific results
- Ability to work with a diverse group of employees, customers, and co-workers to achieve net-positive outcomes
