TIAA Cloud | Senior Lead FinOps Engineer

Key Responsibilities And Duties

  • Operate and manage various Cloud financial management tools (Including Apptio Cloudability and native cloud provider tools) to provide financial transparency across the organization and make data driven decisions.
  • Deliver new and iterative features to the Cloud FinOps reporting and data platform.
  • Leverage automation and scripting to democratize and deliver meaningful alerts, insights, anomalies, workflow, and other tools to be leveraged by multiple stakeholder personas to manage and optimize their cloud spend.
  • Senior Cloud FinOps Engineer will develop solutions and strategies to optimize cloud usage and refactor existing technology toward effective ways to leverage Cloud-native services.
  • Engineer and implement patterns to achieve Cloud elasticity of enterprise application.
  • Identify ways to enhance forecasting, chargeback and modeling of cloud spend, including the delineation between cost to produce (non-production) and cost to serve (production) for tracking cloud costs back to business benefits.
  • Senior Cloud FinOps Engineer will communicate and collaborate between business, technology, and finance teams.
  • Promote a cost-conscious culture and cloud engineering best practices across the IT organization.
  • Support stakeholders in understanding their forecasted cloud spend based on their strategic plans.
  • Provide guidance to developers and application owners on best practices for reducing costs and optimizing consumption of cloud services.
  • Establish Cloud Financial KPIs in alignment with CPM goals and objectives. Create operational metrics to demonstrate cloud usage.
  • Lead and facilitate regular cloud financial management calls.
  • Use Agile methodology for planning and execution.
  • Produce insightful cloud dashboards and reports that can be shared with across the firm.
  • Provide summaries and detailed usage statistics for resources across public clouds, offering actionable intelligence to right-size and scale services efficiently to realize savings.
  • Support annual budget and forecast process for enterprise-wide cloud spend.

Educational Requirements

  • University (Degree) Preferred

Required

  • Proven experience in Cloud Cost Management with experience in some 3rd party cloud cost management tools
  • 2-4+ years of enterprise experience in either AWS, Google Cloud Platform or Azure
  • Python or similar automation/scripting languages knowledge
  • High proficiency with MS Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred

  • Proven experience in Cloud Cost Management with experience in some 3rd party cloud cost management tools.
  • 5 years of enterprise experience in either AWS, Google Cloud Platform or Azure.
  • Python or similar automation/scripting languages knowledge.
  • High proficiency with MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Public Cloud Service Provider certifications is desirable.
  • Cloud FinOps certifications.
  • 5 years of experience as a Cloud FinOps analyst with deep knowledge of cost and usage data using the FinOps/Cloud spend optimization discipline.
  • 5 years of enterprise experience in either Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform or other public cloud.
  • Python or similar automation/scripting languages knowledge.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, IT, Accounting or Economics. MBA a plus.
  • Familiarity with cost structure of cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, and Google.
  • Understanding of applications development environments, database, data management and infrastructure capabilities and constraints.
  • Experience with AWS tagging benefits and limitations.
  • Analytical and quantitative skills with hands-on experience on cloud demand forecasting, cost optimization, capacity planning, cloud utilization and spend modeling and cost savings strategy development.
  • Excellent organization, time management, and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Self-starter who can also work with a team to deliver superior customer service.
  • Experience working in an agile environment / SDLC.
  • The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator, collaborative team player and analytical thinker.
