Lead Cloud Engineer | FinOps

The Lead Cloud FinOps Engineer will ensure our clients get the most value out of every dollar we spend in the cloud. As a FinOps Cloud Engineer you will be responsible to create, maintain and optimize cloud infrastructure for running applications and infrastructure including dev, test and production environments. You will be an integral member of a team continuously innovating and improving our path on optimal usage of cloud resources, while helping to drive a culture of accountability meeting organizational needs. You will bring immediate impact on day-to-day efficiency on FinOps operations.

Responsibilities:

  • This role involves understanding cloud discount structures and being able to advise on architecture that optimizes efficient spend. The individual in this role should have knowledge of the Well-Architected Framework (WAF) and extensive experience in developing and delivering cloud solutions on all major cloud environments. This individual should have a strong history of designing and implementing solutions that meet efficiency, performance, and business objectives.
  • Deliver new and complex high-quality solutions to clients in response to varying business requirements focusing on financial reengineering and cost savings in using cloud services.
  • Provide differentiated consulting services on advisory, design, integration, and implementation to various Unisys clients with platform engineering concepts and building products mapping to appropriate pricing, showback/chargeback concepts for their internal teams.
  • Build cloud native/third party integrated tools to monitor customer cloud spending and present opportunities for cost savings.
  • Build and create dashboards to provide insights on costs by services, applications, owners, verticals, or components and identify opportunities for cost optimization.
  • Enable generating monthly reports and maintaining KPI for cloud cost across hyperscalers.
  • Build engineered solutions to analyze reservations coverage and assist with procurement.
  • Enable customers on cost initiatives, build cost models, and assist with budget alignment.
  • Work with various stakeholders to track cloud costs from project inception to go-live, ongoing operations, and retirement.
  • Support FinOps tooling, process, and methodologies that enable effective cloud cost management.
  • Ability to solution architect and build engineered automation integrations for driving cloud adoptions across the enterprise.
  • Make recommendations on strategic solutions that can scale meeting customer security/compliance requirements while meeting simplified user experience and drive private/hybrid cloud adoption.

  • Communicate both within (other development organizations, Legal) and outside of Unisys (vendors and partners). Escalate issues as and when required and handle any escalations to the senior management
  • Act as product and system expert. Demonstrate strengths in multiple areas. Suggest new features. Research new technologies and testing methodologies.
  • Estimate, plan and manage multiple concurrent tasks and contribute to project planning. Compile actual efforts into status reports. Gather and report metrics. Ensure that the team meets all deadlines and commitments
  • Analyze technical requirements in area of expertise and proposes solutions.
  • Conduct technical feasibility studies.
  • Architect specific products, solutions or testing strategies. Identify testing configurations for the overall solution. Document specifications which provide a high level of definition of the module and describe how it interfaces/integrates with other modules
  • Coordinate and oversee complex feature development/testing by team members. Monitor adherence to quality and encourage the team members to adhere to quality processes. Review written code for self and others
  • Develop test strategies. Coordinate and oversee testing by team members.
  • Participate as a member of the product design team with focus on system maintainability/usability. Develop plan, write and execute tests at the system level.
  • Assist with analysis of difficult system problems. Consultant for product or solution problems. Recommend suggested solutions to problems.
  • Fix defects in multiple product areas. Solve complex problems. Coordinate and oversee defect resolution by team members. Oversee test case maintenance. Review external customer User Communication Forms (UCF’s) for a system and update or create new test cases as appropriate.
  • Recommend Serviceability design improvements to Engineering. Drive opportunities to improve Field Support and Engineering relationships. Provide manufacturing support.
  • Lead efforts of virtual teams. Understand regional cultural considerations and form tight working relationships.
  • Learn new technologies and continue to expand expertise.
  • Participates in Innovation activities by commenting and generating ideas and leading a team. Provide training to associates within or outside the organization. Creation of Knowledge Documents.

You will be successful in this role if you have:

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in cloud spending analysis and cloud cost optimization insights in cloud native or market tools.
  • Good knowledge of public cloud players and understanding the cloud offering, discount market terminology, and forecasting to the customer (e.g., at minimum, AWS, Azure, and GCP)
  • Practicing knowledge of cloud environments’ designing, provisioning and management.
  • Core knowledge about how to query, analyze, and summarize data efficiently and accurately and make FinOps reports accessible and timely can provide benefits such as enabling effective cost optimization and providing transparency into cloud costs.
  • Basic knowledge and the functionality of API calls and shell scripting to pull the data from the cloud provider.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively talk with stakeholders with up-to-date information on cloud costs and reports can help identify cost savings opportunities and inform resource allocation decisions.
  • Strong knowledge of data driving Excel pivots and presentation skills.
  • Understanding the cloud cost management market and the native tools (cost optimization tools like, Cloudability)
  • Computer Science/EE undergraduate degree, or demonstrated equivalent knowledge.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of experience within the engineering organization with high level expertise in a specific solution/technology
  • Understand Product Life Cycle management in an engineering environment, with focus on agile methodologies.
  • Ability to work in a global team, with multiple stakeholders across functions and geographical regions
  • Ability to communicate task, requirements, design information with clients on a regular basis
  • Knowledge of engineering concepts/principles
  • Proactive, analytical and capable of influencing and providing decision support
  • Team Player, leader and mentor.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with good command over English language
  • Proposing opportunities for follow-on business that result in new business.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in cloud cost optimization or relevant work experience
  • Experience working with a cloud cost dashboard or cloud-native tools
  • FinOps practitioner certification or cloud provider cost management native tool expertise
