Overview

Upwork has partnered with an American based worldwide employment-related search engine. To continue with this mission, they are looking for an AWS Financial Analyst to assist in global operations for internal platforms with a specific focus on the client’s hosting environment – both on premise and cloud. Both, full-time and part-time opportunities, are on offer.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
  • Supporting the Cloud Business Office (CBO) and Cloud Center of Excellence (CCOE) by answering cloud billing questions
  • Oversee financial planning and budgeting for cloud expenses including monthly financial reporting, variance analysis and reconciliations
  • Help with the management of Kion system — ensure monthly budgets align with forecasts, report on monthly variances, and identify risk and opportunities to AWS spend forecasts.
  • Reconcile the client’s AWS invoices to ensure they are being billed correctly as per the contract and that any discrepancies are resolved quickly. Escalate issues as needed.
  • Work with the CBO and CCOE to constantly analyze and identify AWS Cloud savings opportunities across the organization.
  • Understand current and future savings instruments offered by AWS (including Compute Savings Plans (CSPs) and Reserved Instances (RIs)) and provide proactive recommendations on how the company can take full advantage of those opportunities.
  • Educate team members / AWS users on cloud financial savings tools (both internal and industry).
  • Assist with special projects to support strategic decision-making (e.g., “what if” strategic analysis, global business forecasting, new product P&L projections)
  • Identify and track key performance metrics pertaining to cloud / hosting spend

Qualifications

Requirements:
  • 2+ years work experience in financial planning & analysis, accounting, investment banking, consulting, and/or corporate finance
  • Experience working as financial analyst for cloud / hosting environments
  • A working knowledge of AWS hosting solutions, concepts, terminology, billing, etc.
  • Proven experience in building strong financial models required
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Extremely strong analytical, problem-solving skills and business acumen
  • Ability to work under pressure and within short time constraints in a complex system and business environment
  • Strong communication and presentation skills in English
Experience that would be great, but is not required:
  • FinOps certification
  • Google Suite experience / Excel mastery
  • Adaptive Planning experience
  • Experience with AWS “cost allocation and accountability” best practices (tagging)
  • Experience forecasting for AWS on a large scale ($1M+ per month)
  • Project and time management skills
