Sr. Manager, Cloud Cost Optimization

Your New Role

The Cloud Cost Optimization Lead role reports into the Cloud FinOps team as part of the Technology & Operations (T&O) Office of CIO organization. The FinOps team is responsible for planning and managing the global Warner Brother Discovery cloud consumption and spend, cloud financial and accounting tracking, advisory services, cost modeling and strategic analysis, executive and financial reporting, data management and show back, contract negotiation analysis, cost/resource governance, anomaly tracking, and architecture optimization.

Your Role Accountabilities: 

The Cloud Cost Optimization Lead will be a critical member of the team working directly with our cloud clients, leadership, and vendors. Key tasks include:

• Set and deliver strategic vision and annual goals for the Cloud Cost Optimization function
•  Build Cloud Cost Optimization Centre of Excellence (CoE) – manage, mature, and lead the optimization processes, policies, and framework
• Monitor cloud resources efficiency across accounts, report violations, develop recommendations, and collaborate with teams to implement improvements
• Participate in deep analysis relating cloud capacity commitment purchases to optimize spend and reduce on demand usage where possible
• Collaborate and lead discussions with architects and engineers relating better resource setup, configuration, and usage
• Perform specialized studies and analysis to determine impact of resources downscale/changes for more economical consumption
• Participate and provide technical subject matter expertise as needed in maturing cloud infrastructure governance practices that impact cost tracking such as tagging standardization, automation, security governance, and optimal resource setup during account provisioning
• Provide technical expertise in laying design groundwork for special projects to pull cost and usage data from vendors for reporting and tracking purposes (via API queries/Python)

Qualifications & Experiences:

• Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, and Azure) and resources setup, configuration, and workflows
• Strong knowledge in CloudAware, DivvyCloud, and/or other cloud governance, monitoring, and CMDB tools
• Knowledge of CDN services and providers such as Akamai
• Strong knowledge in Python and API queries
• Leader and a team player with transformation mindset and passion for optimization
• Strong organizational, task, and project management skills
• Self-driven and able to work across diverse technical and non-technical teams
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to operate successfully in a lean, agile, and fast-paced organization
• BS degree in Computer Science or engineering; or equivalent professional experience
• Background as SRE/Devops engineer
• Experience in consulting or a client facing role is a plus

• +5 years of relevant work experience at a large-scale global company
• Knowledge in SQL queries, Amazon Aurora, and PostgresSQL is a plus
