Cloud Cost Optimization Specialist

About the Team/Role

The Infrastructure Cost Optimization Specialist is a critical role responsible for leading and executing strategies to optimize costs associated with our global infrastructure technologies, including AWS, Azure, DataDog, Splunk, and other key platforms. This individual will be a subject matter expert in cloud financial management (FinOps) practices, identifying cost-saving opportunities, driving their implementation, and reporting on cost trends and savings achievements to senior leadership.

How you’ll make an impact

• Analyze cloud usage data to identify cost drivers, trends, and areas for optimization.
• Develop and implement cost optimization strategies for cloud infrastructure, software licenses, and other technology expenditures.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to implement cost-saving recommendations and track their effectiveness.
• Research and evaluate new technologies and tools for potential cost savings.
• Create and maintain dashboards and reports to track cloud costs, forecast future spending, and measure the impact of cost optimization efforts.
• Communicate cost trends, savings opportunities, and project updates to senior technology executives and other stakeholders.
• Develop clear and concise presentations and reports to effectively communicate complex financial information.
• Build strong relationships with engineering teams, finance, and procurement to foster collaboration and drive cost optimization initiatives.
• Educate and train engineers on best practices for cost-effective cloud usage and optimization techniques.
• Collaborate with procurement to negotiate favorable pricing and terms with vendors.
• Stay up-to-date on industry trends, cloud pricing models, and cost optimization best practices.
• Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies to enhance cost visibility and control.
• Continuously refine cost optimization strategies based on data and feedback.

Experience you’ll bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, or related field.
• Experience in IT infrastructure or cloud operations.
• Proven track record of successfully implementing cost optimization initiatives in cloud environments (AWS, Azure).
• Experience with cost management tools and platforms (e.g., Cloudability, CloudHealth, Apptio).
• Experience with data analysis and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Tableau).
• Experience working with cross-functional teams and communicating effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to influence and collaborate with others.
• Deep understanding of cloud technologies, pricing models, and cost optimization best practices.
• Familiarity with FinOps principles and methodologies.
• Certifications in AWS or Azure cloud technologies.
• Experience with FinOps Certified Practitioner or similar certifications.
• Experience in a large enterprise environment.
