Cloud FinOps Analyst

The WoodMac Cloud FinOps team is looking for a Cloud FinOps analyst to join at an exciting time as the company looks to invest a greater focus on Cloud financial management. Wood Mackenzie has seen significant growth in the Cloud (AWS and Azure) since 2018, with that growth expected to continue as the company continues with a Cloud-first approach. As well as playing a pivotal role in the day-to-day tasks of the team you will have the opportunity to lead on projects relating to process design and development as we identify new areas of responsibility resulting from our new company ownership.

 

Key responsibilities

 

  • Accurately process and allocate monthly AWS and Azure spend, delivering reports to Finance and key stakeholders
  • Monitor and administer Reserved Instance, Reservations, and Savings plans, ensuring that business owners are engaged, and required approvals are in place prior to purchasing
  • Deliver ad-hoc Cloud cost reporting as requested by the business by writing Athena SQL in the AWS Cost and Usage Report (CUR) and leveraging PowerBI
  • Contribute to Cloud spend analysis and forecasting activities working collaboratively with the relevant business areas and Finance
  • Provide FinOps best practice guidance to the business through knowledge shares, and by regularly reviewing and updating the Cloud FinOps Education space

Qualifications

This position offers a unique opportunity to grow in technology, finance, and in building customer relationships. The successful applicant will also build a knowledge of Cloud platforms and services, and FinOps practices.

Location

The position is based in Edinburgh, UK and leverages a hybrid model of required in-office time (currently 2 days in-office weekly but subject to change) and WFH

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Computer Science
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerBI
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification preferred
  • Athena SQL skills a plus
  • FinOps Practitioner Certification a plus
  • Interest in growth in both the technology and finance disciplines
